"Maintaining HIV/AIDS treatment to keep people alive will cripple developing economies, or place unbearable strains on richer countries trying to support them and action is needed now, to avert crisis later," says a report released this week by a cross-cutting parliamentary group.The report describes how by 2030 over 50 million people will need HIV treatment compared to just 9 million who need it today and urges pharmaceutical companies to allow generic manufacturers to produce their HIV medicines cheaply, specifically for developing countries.
